How does
the illustration
sound?

This set of illustrations was created for the children music book “SONG OF VIOLIN” („SMUIKELĖS GIESMĖ“), dedicated to the Lithuanian folk songs. Lightness, pure line, watercolor and subtle compositions were a visual interpretation of the sense of music. The concept of the graphic style was to reveal a song in a light drawing and create a musical illustration. The essential inspiration to complete this idea was Lithuanian folk art.
Lithuanian folklore is an inexhaustible source of imagination: motives which remind of a daily life, love and relationship between nature and humanity — everything turns into symbols, symbols turn into patters and patterns are found in every authentic object around us: graphics and paintings, books, various design objects, clothes, furniture, ceramics, interior details, things of everyday life. Everywhere we can find our culture, the identity of our nation.
Lithuanian folk songs are full of sincerity and simplicity. They are stories about our lives, values, traditions, and eventually — ourselves.

Illustrations for the book “Song of Violin” was like a fresh air for me. I had a great pleasure to create and find a lot about myself in each drawing.

I am thankful to Ieva Tijūnėlienė, the author of the book, who gave me such a wonderful opportunity to experience who we really are and to reveal a small part of that in illustrations.

I hope, that those who look at this series of works will hear how these illustrations sound.
Thank You for watching this project!
Ačiū!
